Financial expert Dave Ramsey is best known for his call-in talk shows on the radio and on FOX Business Network. Over the years he has helped thousands of people work their way to debt freedom. I have taken his Financial Peace University course twice–once with his original curriculum, once with the recently released updated curriculum. It’s fantastic as he really knows how to light a fire under families to become debt-free…a lifestyle in contrast to the current flow of our society.
But debt freedom isn’t the only message Dave Ramsey has shared. Last year I stumbled across a little known motivational talk Ramsey has given, and it affected me deeply. It spurred me to finish my most taxing (and probably best) novel, create this web site, put my writing teachings online, create a detailed social media plan and more. I’ve listened to his talk multiple times and I can’t get the message out of my head.
I’ve been in church since I was a teenager, went to a Christian university and then worked at a ministry for years. I don’t want to oversell this, but believe me when I say I’ve heard thousands of motivational messages and teachings and this is one of the best. It’s not because Ramsey is particularly eloquent or because what he shares is completely new. This is one of the best because the principles he shares are life-changing and jolting.
The talk is called the “Momentum Theorem.” It’s a “formula” for success that’s neither quick nor easy, but wise. I love it because it applies directly to writers. If you want to be a children’s author or a freelance writer, you must apply the Momentum Theorem to your life for lasting success in your career. I’ve written more than 50 books at this juncture in my life, but wish I had acted on this wisdom years ago. Every variable in the formula works together to help you accomplish what you’re called to do.
Skeptical? I would be, too, but don’t take my word for it. Listen to it yourself. I first heard Ramsey mention the Momentum Theorem on his radio show, so I contacted Dave Ramsey’s headquarters. Unfortunately, they said the talk isn’t currently available from them. In fact, Dave Ramsey has only spoken on the Momentum Theorem in two places that I can document. One is the East Coast Catalyst leadership conference–they wanted a couple hundred dollars for the recording. The other is Wiregrass Church in Alabama. If you contact them, they’ll point you to an online link where you can download the audio for $1.
Or, you can watch it for FREE on YouTube. You’ve got to love the Internet.
In Parts 2-5 of this series, I’ll post the YouTube videos and my detailed notes on each section of the teaching.
